William H. Foltz, age 93, of Masury, OH passed away at 10:07AM Saturday morning October 17, 2015 in is home following a short illness.
He was born on October 24, 1921 in Brookfield, OH the son of Lewis A. and Emily P. (Haller) Foltz. He attended Brookfield Schools and was an active member of the Civilian Conservation Corps. of which he always had remained very proud. William proudly served Our Country in the United States Navy during World War II in the Pacific Theater of Operations aboard the USS Mobile as a Gunners Mate 2nd Class. He participated in action against the enemy in Tarawa, Wake Island, Marshall Islands, Battle of the Philippine Sea, Luzon, Okinawa, and was part of the forces that occupied Japan following the war. He received and Honorable Discharge in November of 1945.
Following his discharge William returned home to work for the former G.A.T.X Plant in Masury where he would retire in 1982 after forty-two years having served as a foreman and maintenance supervisor. During his time there he was instrumental in the founding of the G.A.T.X Credit Union for fellow employees. He had also been an avid woodworker and also enjoyed gardening around his home.
He is survived by four sons Wade J. Foltz and his wife Mickie of Masury, OH, Douglas M. Foltz of Hubbard, OH, Thomas M. Foltz and his wife Carol of Gibsonville, NC, and William H. Foltz and his wife Kathryn of Vienna, OH; his brother Daniel Foltz and his wife Gail of Winston Salem, NC; Seven grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and by his close friend William Cappitte of Hubbard, OH.
Mr. Foltz was preceded in death by his parents, his wife the former Irene R. (Bater) Foltz whom he married on February 10, 1945 and passed away December 13, 2000; his son Kenneth W. Foltz in 1995, brothers James and Donald Foltz, and by his sister Mae Ghrist.
Friends and family may call from 5:00PM until 8:00PM on Tuesday evening October 20, 2015 at the Sample-O’Donnell Funeral Home 555 East State Street on the corner of Oakland Avenue in Sharon, PA.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday morning October 21, 2015 at the funeral beginning at 11:00AM.
Burial will take place next to his wife at America’s Cemetery in Hermitage.
