SHARON-Wallace Dale Wood, 82, of Sharon passed away peacefully on Monday morning July 1, 2019 in Sharon Regional Medical Center.
He was born in Luray, Virginia on August 23, 1936 a son of Thomas and Gladys Verlin (Burner) Wood. Following his graduation from high school, Dale enlisted in the Air Force taking him to both Iwo Jima and Korea with the 421st Air Force Police Squadron. He attained the rank of Airman First Class before his honorable discharge on May 12, 1960.
Dale first worked at Westinghouse in the paint department. He then worked many years as a semi truck mechanic before his retirement from Compas/Falcon Trucking. Dale was an avid hunter and enjoyed fishing and camping. He was also very much involved with the Boy Scouts and was a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Sharon where he had served on the Deacon’s Board.
He leaves behind his sons David W. Wood and Scott A. Wood both of Sharon, sister-in-law Alice Maye Juranovich of Sharon, as well as by two nephews.
Dale was preceded in death by his parents, his wife the former Margaret J. (Hall) whom he married December 27, 1957 and passed away June 28, 2009, and by his brother Charles Wood.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday evening at 7:00PM at the Sample-O’Donnell Funeral Home 555 East State St. in Sharon with Rev. John M. Trojak pastor of First Baptist Church officiating. Friends may visit with the family from 5:00-7:00 PM prior to the start of the service.
Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery.
