Sophie P. Niemi formerly of Wells Road in Hermitage, passed away on Saturday evening July 1, 2017 at the Melbourne Terrace Care Center in Melbourne Florida as a result of a stroke several days earlier. She was ninety-six years old.
Born in New Castle, on June 22, 1921, she was the youngest daughter of the late George and Josephine (Jaskula) Pilch.
A devoted mom, grandma, and great-grandma to her family, Sophie enjoyed sewing, and cleaning and was well known for having all areas of her home impeccably clean at all times.
Sophie leaves behind her children Richard A. Niemi of Clearwater, FL, Sandy DeVincentis of New Castle, PA, Beverly Biggin and her husband John of West Melbourne, FL; her eight grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren; her son-in-law Harry W. Crook of Hermitage, PA; and by several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband William E. Niemi whom she married on September 17, 1938 and passed away on October 7, 1976, her daughter Patricia L. Crook, grandson Brian Biggin, her son-in-law Richard DeVincentis; and by two sisters and five brothers.
Private funeral services will be held for her family on Saturday July 8, 2017 at the Sample-O’Donnell Funeral Home 555 East State Street Sharon, PA 16146.
Interment will be next to her husband at Oakwood Cemetery.
