GEORGETOWN, FLORIDA- Floyd D. Brest, 91, formerly of Stafford Street in Farrell passed away peacefully on Friday afternoon January 20, 2017 at Putnam Community Medical Center in Palatka, FL.
Floyd was born on March 8, 1925 in Greenfield, PA, the son of the late Arthur W. and Cora May (Rhyne) Brest.
A member of the greatest generation, he proudly served Our Country in the U.S. Navy during World War II in the South Pacific theater of Operations as a gunner aboard a tanker. On September 22, 1944 he wed his sweetheart the former Ruth E. Green with whom he would go on to share more than fifty-three years of marriage.
Mr. Brest was graduated from pipefitters school and was employed at the former Sharon Steel Company. Through his hard work and dedication, he worked his way up through the ranks to retire as a general foreman with more than forty-five years of service. Floyd was an avid sportsman enjoying fishing for trout, hunting various small game and deer, golfing, as well as taking mini tours with family and friends.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory his daughter Blanche Smith and her husband Rick of Meadville, PA and his son David Brest and his companion Linda Mahanay of Palm Coast, Florida; and by his nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife Ruth on October 21, 1997; his brothers Frank, George, Lawrence, and Art; and by his sister Alice.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00PM on Saturday January 28, 2017 at the Sample-O’Donnell Funeral Home 555 East State Street Sharon, PA 16146 with Rev. Joseph Yurko officiating. Friends may call from noon until the start of the service.
Burial will take place at Oakwood Cemetery in Hermitage, PA.
