Mrs. Dorothy Mae Gibson 89, of Nugent’s Convalescent Home in Hermitage, PA, passed away peacefully late Friday evening February 26, 2016 at UPMC Horizon in Farrell, PA following a period of declining health.

She was born in Sharon on February 2, 1927 the daughter of James and Eva (Dresch) Wheaton.  Dorothy was a 1945 graduate of Fredonia High School and following the return of her sweetheart Homer N. Gibson from World War II they were united in a marriage that would go on to last for nearly sixty-seven years on October 22, 1946.

Mrs. Gibson was a devoted homemaker and mother to her family throughout her life.  She especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren whom she deeply cherished.  Dorothy was a member of the Clark Trinity United Methodist Church and also enjoyed the loving company and companionship of many dogs and cats over the years.

Dorothy leaves behind to cherish her memories two children Homer Nicholas Gibson Jr. of Hermitage: Cathy Smith of Sharon; two grandchildren Todd Yarian and his wife Denise of West Middlesex and Mark Yarian and his wife Colleen of Sharon; six great-grandchildren Ryan, Paige, Legion, and Gabriel Yarian, Madison and Maranda Callahan; three sisters Shirley Gibson and her husband George of Hermitage, Peggy Cunningham of West Middlesex, Karen Mitchelltree and her husband Bill of Hermitage; her brother-in-law John Schell of Brookfield, OH; and by her many nieces and nephews.

Now she has been reunited together again with her husband Homer who passed on May 5, 2013, her sister Norma Jean Schell, brother James Wheaton, and by her parents.

A funeral service will be held at the Sample-O’Donnell Funeral Home 555 E. State St., Sharon, PA beginning at 2:00 PM on Tuesday March 1, 2016 with Rev. William Locke, pastor of the Clark Trinity Methodist Church, officiating.  Friends may call one hour prior to the start of the services.

Burial will take place next to her husband at Oakwood Cemetery in Hermitage, PA.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations may be made to the Mercer County Human Society at P.O. Box 1046, Hermitage, PA 16148 in her honor.
